Going for the Gold

Dear Parents,

We have had a great week in third grade.  The students have worked very hard.  Parents please make sure that your child is reading 20 minutes every night.  If you can take the time to read with your child that would be wonderful.  I am sending home the scores form the ITBS test that the students took in the beginning of September.  This test is one indicator of how your child will preform on the CRCT in the spring.  Please pay close attention to the reading comprehension part of the test.  Your child needs to be above the 50th percentile rank in this area.  For all of the other tests as well your child needs to be above the 5oth percentile rank.  Reading comprehension counts this year on the CRCT.  Your child must pass the reading comprehension part of the test on the CRCT to move on to fourth grade.  With all that said I can not stress enough how important it is for your child to be reading at home.  You can also take them to the public library so they can check out books over the Thanksgiving break as well.

Next week (when we get back) for specials:

Monday~ Science

Tuesday~ P.E.

Wednesday~ Computer

Thursday~ P.E.

Friday~ Art

Next week (when we get back) we will be learning:

Math~ We will be continuing with multiplication.  Make sure your student is practicing their multiplication facts at home.

Writing~ We will be writing our informational papers.

Science~ We will start talking about fossils.

Social Studies~ We will start learning about map skills.

Reading~ We will be finishing up our study of informational books!

I hope that you and your family have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!

Very Sincerely,

Please make sure that your student is reading 20 to 30 minutes a night because this will really help with their reading comprehension.

Going for the Gold

Dear Parents,

We have had a busy week in third grade!  Please make sure to look at your child's SRI report that I sent home yesterday.  This report will let you know how your student is doing so far in reading.

It is the start of the new nine weeks, and that means new "AR" goals.  During this nine weeks of school your student has to read 20 "AR" books, and pass their test with an 80% or better in order to go to the "AR" party.  Please make sure that your child is reading their "AR" books at home every night so they can come into school ready to take an "AR" test!  Also in your student's homework folder is the pizza paper I told you about earlier.  The students color in a slice of pizza every time they pass an "AR" test.  This will help you to see how many "AR" test your child has passed so far!

Please make sure you are checking your child's agenda every night to make sure they are getting their homework done on a nightly basis.

Next week we will be working on:

Math~ We will continue with elapsed time.

Science~ We will be finishing our study on rocks and minerals!

History~ We will be studying democracy, and the different types.

Reading~ We will be learning about facts and opinions.

Writing~ We will begin our study on informational writing.

Next week for specials:

Monday~P.E.

Tuesday~ Music

Wednesday~ P.E.

Thursday~ Science

Friday~ P.E.

I hope you and your family have a fun and relaxing weekend!  Thank you for your continued support.

Very Sincerely,

Ms. Tyus

Going for the Gold

Dear Parents,

We have a great week in third grade!  The students have done an AWESOME job with COGAT testing this week on Wednesday and Thursday.  Next week we have ITBS testing Monday through Friday.  Please make sure that your student is getting plenty of rest at night and is eating a healthy breakfast in the morning.  Next week is a very important testing week!

Also, parents I have sent home progress reports with students who have below a "S" in any subject area.  Please note that the progress reports were sent home based on their grades right now.  Their grades could go up or down based on their performance during the rest of the nine weeks.  Therefore, please continue to check your students Friday folder for their grades for that week, this will help you to keep up with how your student is doing in all subject areas.
