Thurs. 9/22 – I-Moms – 7:15-8:00 a.m. in Cafeteria

Fri. 9/23 – School pictures, Singathon from 2:30 – 6:00 p.m. in Dowell cafeteria

 

 Reminders:

_Parents, please remember to sign or initial your child’s agenda nightly.

_Homework is assigned Mon. thru Thurs. unless noted.  Homework is not assigned on Fridays.

_Remember to check the weekly folders each week and sign the behavior chart in the back of the folder.  Please return folders to school on the next school day.

 

Academic Info:

Math – Model addition and subtraction using the fewest number of coins, determine elapsed time to the full and half hour, use mental math and estimation strategies to subtract.

Science/Soc. Studies – Erosion, weathering, and fossils.

Reading/Lang Arts – Author’s purpose, discriminate between realism and fantasy, determine the meaning of unknown words using context clues, use dictionaries and thesaurus, make connections to text, recognize and use homophones and homographs, recognize and use contractions correctly.

Spelling/Writing–Diphtongs, oi, oy, ou, ow, ambiguous vowels, aw, au, al, ou, and  narrative stories.

 

Spotlighting!!!

Congratulations to Macy for being our Terrific Kids winner.  She demonstrated our character word of the month for August, Respect!  Thank you again to the parents that have donated needed supplies for our classroom.  You are greatly appreciated!!

Dowell's lobby will be locked from 2:00-2:30 for dismissal.  If you need to pick up your child for any reason, please plan to pick them up BEFORE 2:00.  Thank you!

BOX TOPS COMPETITION

The P.E. department has started their school wide box tops competition. The class that collects the most box tops in K, 1^st, and 2^nd as well as the class that collects the most box tops in 3^rd, 4^th, and 5^th grade will win a popcorn party and money for free play equipment!!!

All you have to do is cut off the box tops on products you already have in your house like cereal boxes, pop tarts, yogurt, soup, paper products, school supplies etc. and give them to your teacher.

The money we raise with box tops is used to buy equipment for you to play with during P.E. and field day. The competition ENDS OCTOBER 19^th so start collecting and bring in those box tops!!!!!
