Week 4
Dear Parents,
I hope you all had a happy and safe Labor Day weekend! We are now in the fourth week of school and the students are adjusting very well to second grade. I am enjoying getting to know each child and we are concentrating on building a positive classroom community. We are learning and practicing classroom rules, routines and the Dowell Dolphin Duties on a daily basis.
- High Expectations
- Respect for All People and Their Property
- Safe and Orderly School
- Time on Task
- Tame Line
The students are showing responsibility in the classroom with their job duties, such as line leader, floor monitor, cafeteria helper and more. Jobs change weekly.
Important Dates:
Monday, September 4 - Labor Day Holiday, no school
Tuesday, September 5 - Fundraising Packets are due
Thursday, September 7 - Open House - 6:15 - 7:00 p.m., PTA Meeting - 7:00 - 7:45 p.m.
Friday, September 15 - Progress Reports go home
Reminders:
Snack Time - We have snack time in our classroom and I ask that you please pack a healthy snack for your child (no candy or sugary snacks). Water is allowed in the classroom during snack time, but please no fruit juices or sugary drinks.
Agendas, Homework, Folders - Parents please be sure to read your child's agenda and initial or sign it daily. Students are responsible for writing down their own homework every day. Students are expected to read every night for 15-20 minutes in addition to the homework given for that day. Homework folders are sent home daily along with the agenda. The homework folders are used to keep homework sheets, important papers, and student work. Please make sure to read all the information and sign and return papers as requested. Make sure to check your child's homework when they complete it at home before bringing it to school. I am checking for completion of the homework, not for accuracy.
Paperwork - If there are still any forms that you did not fill out from the red Cobb County School District folder please fill them out as soon as possible and return to school with your child. This is important paperwork that is needed. Thank you for your cooperation.
Academic Info:
Language Arts - We are working with our Reading books and are focusing on comprehension, vocabulary, and phonics (r-blends, s-blends). We are using the Sitton Spelling program to help us improve our spelling and are writing away during Writer's Workshop.
Math - We are reviewing addition word problems and are working on subtracting one digit numbers. We also do daily work with Calendar Math.
Social Studies - We are learning about different types of communities (urban, suburb, and rural).
