A BIG Thank you to Joey's Mom, Marvin's Parents, Maysan's Mom, and Noah's Mom for going to the zoo with us!  We appreciate it and hope you had fun!

Information regarding the last week of school went home yesterday (Tuesday).  We will also have special guest readers the last week of school.  Students are not allowed to bring their bookbags to school the last day of school.

Highlights from the Classroom:

Language Arts/Reading:  handwriting, guided reading groups, writing first and last name, review literary elements (author, illustrator, character, setting, problem, solution), beginning/middle/end, simple directions writing using graphic organizers, editing marks, phonics, short and long vowel sounds, sight word bingo, word families, continued with our author study - Eric Carle, AR, following directions (writing), sticker stories, and computers.

Math: Daily Math RAP (calendar, months of the year, days of the week, today, yesterday, tomorrow, seasons, tens, ones, daily number work, season - spring, power line, graphing, money), review money (fair trade, penny, nickel, dime, quarter), review addition (building numbers to 10), doubles, subtraction, Mega Math, math problem solving, and math journals.

Science:  Continued our study of animals - How do I group animals by their characteristics?  How do I explain that animals are alike and different?

Ways to help at home!

Students need to know how to write their first and last names this nine weeks.  We have been practicing, but please practice at home too.  Coins - practice identifying coins by name and their values (penny, nickel, dime, and quarter), practice counting out pennies to trade for a nickel and a dime.  Continue to practice home mailing address, telephone number, and birthday, read nightly, continue studying sight words, practice handwriting, and allow students to write in a journal at home.

Please return registration information ASAP if you have not done so already.  It went home on Tuesday, April 15 and was due on Thursday, April 17.  Please make sure to address the large brown envelope and place three stamps on it.  Specific instructions were included with the form.

Thank you to Marvin's mom and Noah's dad for attending our Publix and Laurel Park field trip!  We enjoyed having you and the students had a great time!

We will be sending home a handwriting practice sheet (first and last name) today (4/22) in which you can make copies of and have your child practice at home.  We have been practicing in class as well.  Students need to know how to accurately print first and last name this nine weeks.  Thanks for your support!

Food Allergies - As you are already aware of we do have food allergies in our classroom.  Effective immediately please do not send in snacks containing peanuts or peanut butter.  Thank you.

Snacks: Please make sure to send in a healthy snack with your child.  Snack suggestions - fresh fruit, crackers, pretzels, muffins

Report Cards:  Please sign and return white card in brown envelope in your child's yellow folder if you have not done so already.

Report Cards:  Report cards go home on Thursday, March 20.  Please sign and return white cards and brown envelope in your child's yellow folder.  You may keep your child's report card.  Thanks!

Thank you to Marvin's parents for providing pizza cooking supplies last week!  Students are learning how to write simple directions.  They wrote a story about how to make a pizza last week and then they were able to make and enjoy it on Friday!

We still need supplies!  We still need...glue sticks, headphones for the computer lab, and cooking supplies.  If you are able to help with cooking supplies please send a note in your child's yellow folder that you are willing to donate items.

Don't forget to bring in your plastic eggs...filled with goodies and taped by tomorrow (Wednesday, March 19).  Please do not send in a basket or bag with your child.  Students will be making their own in school.
