We will be having a P.T.A. open house on September 6 from 6:00-7:00.  We will meet in our classroom.  The P.T.A. meeting for the night will be shown over the T.V. in our classroom.

The children are working hard on their first list of sight words.  They should be reading their little take home books each night.  Please have them point under each word as they read.  I hope the children are storing their books in the large storage bag I sent home with each child.

The "All About Me" posters I sent home with each child have been returned and they are precious.  I learned so much about your child from their poster.  They were so much fun to look at.  Thank you for all your hard work and for returning them so promptly.

We have been working on main idea, story details, title, author, illustrator and main characters.  You might want to ask your child some of these comprehension concepts as you read stories with them each night.

In math we are working on sorting.  Your child can help out around the house by sorting the laundry, and putting  away the dishes and silverware as you unload the dishwasher.

Welcome to Dowell Elementary School!  I am so excited to be working with your precious children.  We have been working hard on the letters and sounds of the alphabet.  We have begun to work on our sight words for the year.  Your child should have brought home a sheet of sight words to cut apart and practice.  I will be sending home other lists as the year progresses.  I will be sending home our first take home book on Monday.  Please have your child read the books to you each night.

Our math lessons have included:  calendar, numbers to 30, days of the week, seasons, months of the year, ordinal numbers (1st, 2nd, 3rd......), pennies, sorting, patterns and position words.

We will be working on alike/different, me, families and the 5 senses  in social studies and science.  Please continue to work with your children on their addresses and phone numbers.  I am sending home a poster about "ME for the children to complete.   The children should bring back the completedposters on August30.

Your children should also be working on shoe tying. 

Don't forget to send a snack with your child each day.  If you would like to make a donation to our classroom we still need play-dough, water color paint sets, birdseed, cups and forks.
