Sneak Peek at the Past Two Weeks
Math: My students have been learning how to find the radius, diameter, circumference, and area of circles. Please ask your child to answer the following questions for you:
1. What is the relationship between the radius and diameter of a circle?
2. What is the relationship between the circumference and the diameter of a circle?
3. How can I find the circumference of a circle? (Think: Cherry Pi Delight)
4. How can I find the area of a circle? (Think: Apple Pi Rules Too or Apple Pi Really Rules)
Reading: We have been finishing up our books during our Guided Reading time. Please ask your child to summarize what he/she has read so far in his/her book. Duirng our Guided Reading groups, my students have been identifying figurative language, reviewing story elements (characters, setting, theme, conflict in plot), and my students have been making connections to the books they are reading.
Language Arts: My students have learned all eight parts of speech since we just learned about interjections. Your child should be able to identify the following parts of speech:
1. nouns 2. verbs 3. pronouns 4. adjectives
5. adverbs 6. conjunctions 7. prepositions 8. interjections
Social Studies: We have been learning about World War II. My students have learned the major people involved during the war, the major events of the war, and we have discussed Harry Truman's decision to drop the atomic bomb. Your child should be able to discuss the following major events of World War II: The Attack of Pearl Harbor, The Battle of Iwo Jima, D-Day, Victory over Europe Day, Victory over Japan Day, and the Holocaust.

School Wide Reminders
1. Parents and students are not allowed to return to the classrooms after dismissal. My students have ample time to pack up and write in their agendas.
Reminders to Parents
1. Please encourage your child to put his/her name on homework assignments. We do this at school, but I still have at least 4-5 "No Name" papers for each assignment I give. This worries me for middle school.
2. Please encourage your child to check his/her homework to ensure he/she has completed every question. I have many papers that are turned in, and they are incomplete. This has turned into a big problem in our classroom. My students are aware of it, and I have been giving "Captain's Consequences" to help my students learn from their mistakes. If they are not checking over their work, they are not following my verbal directions and this concerns me.
Crew Compliments!!
I would like to congratulate my crew for showing their creativity during math. Please ask your child to share our song for finding area of circles. (Kudos to Dantez for writing the song)
Our lunchroom behavior has continued to be AWESOME! Great job and keep up your great behavior!
I would like to thank my crew members for always being great role models in our hallways. They receive many compliments from staff members regarding their excellent hallway behavior!
Ways to Help at Home
1. Please engage your child in a conversation every night about the skills he/she learned that day. They can use their agenda to help them remember everything we learned that day.
2. The following websites are good resources to help your child:
