Fabulous Fall

Thank you, Thank you , Thank you— We made delicious applesauce thanks to all of the donations we received. We had several green apples that gave it a sweet/tart taste.

Our field trip to the Pumpkin patch is in 2 weeks. I will send home forms again to those who have not returned them. Parents are welcome to follow the bus and pay at the farm. We will go on a hayride, walk through a corn maze and learn about several farm animals. Students also will get a small pumpkin.

With the change in seasons, it is helpful to keep a light jacket in your students backpack.

The Scholastic Book Fair is here at school this week. I will send home the flyer with the students as soon as I receive them. Students and  parents can visit the fair before school and after school each day. Please support the wonder fundraiser for our school.

As the end of the nine weeks approaches, I will be assessing the learning of each student. You will not get as many papers in the Monday folder because I will be filing them in the student’s portfolio. When the report card comes home in October, I will be happy to meet with you and explain your students progress.

Donations Needed– We are in need of small cups for water. Bathroom cups work nicely.

There will is a packet for homework.  Return the packet Friday.

Reading each night is also a part of the homework. Students are to read at least 15 minutes every night and write the book(s) read on the reading log. Students earn a star for every 60 minutes they read. After 5 stars, they can go to the Treasure Box. I will send home books if a child needs them. Otherwise they can read books from home or the library.

APPLES, APPLES, APPLES-

We are studying John Chapman this week in Social Studies. You know him as Johnny Appleseed. In honor of his birthday on Sept. 26th, we will be making applesauce in class on Friday. I am asking that each student bring in an apple of choice. It can be red, green or yellow. Please send in the apple by Thursday. Thank you for your help!

Fall Festival– Sept. 26th from 5pm to 8pm

Performing Arts Information–

In the folder is a flyer about the Performing arts our school gets to see. For first graders, the shows come to our school. For older grades, they see the school shows and go on a field trip to see a special show. Please complete the form and make the donation so we can continue to have great shows for our students.

Please be sure to read with your student for 15 minutes each night! This is very important to their development in reading and writing. Good readers make good writers.

Important Information

Early Release Day–

Sept. 16th is an early release day for students. School is dismissed at 12:20. Please be sure to let me know of any change in transportation for this day.

Library check out began last Wednesday. Students can go to the library once a day. They can check out 2 books. I ask that the students get at least one A.R. book when they check out books.

We completed week 2 of A.R. Students working to meet the 9 weeks goal should be at 4 test with a score of 80% or higher. There is plenty of time to pass 12 tests for the 9 weeks goal.

The official date of the SPLOST III referendum is next Tuesday, September 16.  However, if you would like to vote early you can do so at the following locations:

Dave Holland will be "Drumming up the Stories" for our first early release day.  He will spark the imagination of our students with a fun-filled performance of storytelling, drumming and song.

Picture Day—Wednesday is Picture Day. The order form was sent home last week.

Field Trip Forms and Money– We had our first “In House” field trip today. The singing man came to us. If you have not returned your forms and money, please do so as soon as possible.

Library check out and Accelerated Reader will be starting soon. More information is in the folder. Happy reading.

Weekly Parent Folder– Each Monday I send home completed student work and important information. I wanted to explain about the “Workshop Plan” collection of papers. This is the independent work students complete while I am working with Guided Reading Groups. Students have the incentive to complete the Monday through Thursday work so that they can have Free Choice on Fridays. During this time, I am completing Reading Running Records and working with individual students. Please encourage your student to work hard during the week so they can experience Free Choice time. I plan enjoyed yet educational activities for the students.
