May 23rd- Last Day of School

We are so proud of our students!  Everyone was here and ready for the CRCT test.  Thank you to all the parents that helped their children get ready for the test!

Highlights from the Classroom:

Language Arts/Reading:  DOL (Daily Oral Language), phonics (blending new words), handwriting, guided reading groups, Writer's Workshop, writing process, informational writing, inferring, and special shared reading with our friends from third grade! We are reviewing the meanings of antonyms, synonyms, and homonyms.  Do you know what these words mean?  Ask your child to see what they have been learning.

Math: Daily Math RAP (calendar, months of the year, days of the week, odd/even numbers, tally marks, counting money, tens/ones, number of the day - making addition and subtraction sentences, base ten blocks, less than/greater than, 100-chart, daily number work). We have also added math work in the mornings! The students are practicing math and problem solving throughout the day! We are really moving forward in math.  The students are learning to read graphs.  Being able to read and understand graphs is very important so help your children as they learn about this topic.

Science, Health, Social Studies: The next few weeks we will be discussing plants and animals!  The students will be participating in fun experiments as we learn about this fascinating topic. We planted seeds a few weeks ago we have been watching them turn into small plants.   Ask your child how their plant is doing and what they observed today!  We have also been working on animal projects.  We all got to do research on our favorite animal and use an encyclopedia to answer questions.

AR: We are working towards our new AR goal.  Please remember to read every night!  We have a shorter amount of time because all library books are due by May 9th.  We would love to have all our students participate in the AR party at the end of the year!

Please remember that the field trip to the Mexican restaurant is next Tuesday, May 6th.  We will be going to the park afterwards, so please make sure your child wears play clothes and tennis shoes.

Congratulations! Jasmine was chosen as our Breakfast of Champions!
