September 22, 2006

Happy Birthday this week to Kerry!   Other September birthdays were Bianca and Tyri.  There have been some questions about what parents can do for their children at school for their birthday.  If you would like to send cupcakes or cookies for your child's birthday, that will be fine.  Please just make sure that there are enough for the class (20 right now) and that they are here in time for our snack (9:30 or 9:45).

Special thanks to Madison's mom, Nadine Felton, for volunteering to be our room mom!  If you would like to donate a special snack for any Friday, please just contact me and let me know which Friday would be good for you.

Remember that I am sending home academic alerts today if your child has lower than a B in any subject.   They will be in the Friday folders with the usual behavior sheets.  I am still looking for somebody to be our room parent.  Please email me or send me a note if you are interested.  Also, I am looking for parents who are willing to come in and help out by running copies for me and by sending in special treats for snack on occasional Fridays.  Let me know if you are interested.

We started a new centers rotation in Language Arts this week.  Ask your child about the new book that they are reading in our reading groups.  Also, the next spelling test will be this coming Wednesday.

In Social Studies we are still learning about the regions of the United States.

In Math, we are learning about different types of graphs and how we can use them.

This coming Wednesday is an Early Release day.  Students will get out of school at 12:20.

Thanks to all of you who came to Open House this past week.  I enjoyed meeting with you all.   This week we are back in Social Studies and finishing up our map skills and beginning to learn about the regions of the country.  Our map skills test will be this Tuesday so be sure to help your child study!

In Math we are beginning to get into multiplication and division soon.  Please be studying these facts at home with your child.
