    AR Goals

We are reviewing our AR goals this week.  I will be sending home a form with each student's goal and how many points they have earned so far.  The nine weeks ends March 16 and we will have a celebration for everybody who meets their goal by then.  We have about 30 minutes of silent reading every day in school and each student should be reading for at least 30 minutes every night at home.

We're starting our Revolutionary War research projects this week in Social Studies.  There are four groups of students that will be presenting information on one of four Revolutionary events (Boston Tea Party, Boston Massacre, Intolerable Acts, and Stamp Act/Sugar Act).  They are in groups of four or five and will have the week to do research and prepare their presentations.

For students who are in my  math class, we will be having a math test this Wednesday the 28th.  This will cover the information we have learned on Geometry.  A study guide will be sent home.

Happy Valentines Day!

Remember that if you are bringing Valentines tomorrow, you need to bring enough for the whole class.  (There are 19 now).  I will send a class list home today so you can be sure that nobody is left out.  Candy treats are allowed with the Valentines.

Tomorrow the school will be selling baked goods for 50 cents.  All proceed go to the American Cancer Society.

We're wrapping up our Science unit this week and will begin the Revolutionary War in Social Studies next week.  Our writing for this nine weeks is informational writing.  We will tie that into our Social Studies and write about Revolutionary War figures.  In math, we are working hard on our geometry unit.  Everybody could use some extra practice using a protractor at home.  This website  http://www.amblesideprimary.com/ambleweb/mentalmaths/protractor.html  is a great resource to practice at home.

We had a lot of fun at the Fox Theatre yesterday.  Ask your child what they learned about Harriett Tubman.

Six Flags Reading Program!

Your child will be bringing information home today about the Six Flags reading program.  Please help your child earn a free ticket to Six Flags by reading for 6 hours between now and February 23rd.  You will receive a log to keep up with the minutes read that needs to be signed and returned by the 23rd.  I hope our class earns lots of tickets this year!

Please remember that Cosmic Bowling is coming up on Thursday, Feb. 8.  This wonderful annual event helps our school raise money for Relay for Life.  I hope you and your child will attend.  You will have a ball!

Our field trip to the Fox is this Monday.  Please be sure to return the permission slip and the money ($12) by Friday.
