One more week...

I can't believe it but we are almost at break time! The time has flown by.

Next week is very busy with all the learning and fun activities that we have planned. I can't wait! Remember that if you would like to help just send me a note and I will give your information to our room mom Ms. Cocksedge.

Also, the giving tree is still active. Please send in books, games, and puzzles. Money donations help also:) Helping those in need at this time of year is the best gift of all.

I can smell the Holidays!

This is my favorite time of the year:)

We have so much to be working hard on as we come to the end of this nine weeks. Ask your student about their new job as a tour guide. Have them tell you all about their research. We will also begin learning geometry...the students are ready for a change in math.

I hope you all had a very nice Thanksgiving break!

Cold is in the air!

Cold air and cold germs! Please make sure that your child understands the importance of washing their hands, using tissues, sneezing into their arm, and any other precautionary measure to keep germs from spreading. We have had pink eye across the hall and are desperately trying to keep it from entering our classroom. Remember that your child cannot come to school with pink eye unless they have written documentation that they have been treated. Hopefully this will cut down on the spread of germs. Thank you so much for your support:)

The Holiday Season is fast approaching us. If you would like to come in and help with any of our Holiday activities please contact me to let me know.

Another Week on the Ship

CoGAT testing has gone well! We have one more day this week and ITBS all week next week. Hang in there and make sure your student is prepared and at school by 8:00 am. Otherwise they will have to go to the library and do make-up testing.

Thank you for continuing to read with your student every night at home. We are getting our new classroom computers October 9th and we will begin a new AR goal at that time!

Also, be looking for Book It reading incentive program to begin in October! This program is funded by Pizza Hut and there are prizes:)

*With your child's best interest in mind, please note that there will not be any pictures posted on this blog until I receive the new photograph release form back from every parent/guardian. Thank you for your support!

Fall is Coming...

I am so excited that fall is coming! I hope you all have enjoyed the cooler weather this week as I have:) Please note a few things...

  • Next Wednesday 9/26 and Thursday 9/27 are testing days for the CoGAT. Please make sure your student gets plenty of rest the night before, and a good breakfast the mornings of.
  • Next Friday is Spirit Day-students can wear Dowell shirts from any year.
  • Math night is coming up soon! More details to come:)

Also, please read at least 20 minutes with your students every night. This is proven to help children's literacy as much as independent reading.

Email Notification Service

Parents
The service that we use to automatically notify you when the blog is updated has changed their terms of service in such a way that an ad will begin showing up at the bottom of the email that comes to you. Your email address is still not being shared with anyone other than the school! The mere placement of advertising in school communications is of concern to us, especially since we have no control over what the ad may be.

We are exploring other means of providing this service to you at this time. For now, we ask your patience as we work through the concern. In the meantime, if you receive an ad that is objectionable to you, we would appreciate your notifying the school, and holding onto it so that it may be forwarded to proper personnel.

Thank you for your patience!
