Two Weeks and Counting!

Hang onto your hats . . . Field Day is finally here!  Our day is Tuesday from 8:15-10:45.  We are looking forward to a great day!  Some of our best behaved students have been selected to help with 5th grade and kindergarten field days.  I will announce those students on Monday.  It will be a fun time!

3 More Weeks!

Yes, it's only 3 weeks until school is out!  We will be learning new things, taking end of the year tests, and doing special things like Field Day and Awards Day.  Your child won't want to miss a day!

Reminder:  All library books are due this Friday, May 9.  If your child is going on the chorus trip he/she needs to turn in his/her books on Tues., May 6.  Thank you!

CRCT Continues

Monday and Tuesday will be the last days of CRCT for this year.  On Monday we will test on science, and on Tuesday we will test on social studies.  Please remember to have your child in bed early the nights before them.  Thank you!

FYI:  The last day for checking out books from the library is Friday, May 2.  All library books are due on Friday, May 9.  If your child is going on the Chorus trip, his/her books are due on Tuesday, May 6.  Please help your child remember these important dates.  Thank you!

CRCT!

That's right!  CRCT is upon us.  It will start on Wednesday and will continue through the following Tuesday.  Please be sure your child is at school every day and be sure he/she comes in ON TIME.  We will begin testing each day at 8:15.  Students will need a good breakfast every morning and a good night's sleep every night.  (That means NO LATE BALLGAMES this week!)  Thank you!

Specials this week:  Monday--PE     Tuesday--Youth Museum Field Trip    Wednesday--PE    Thursday--Science Lab    Friday--PE  (Note:  Specials will be at 12:40-1:05 during CRCT.)

On Tuesday we will be going to the Youth Museum for our field trip.  We will leave at 9:15 and we will return around 11:30.  The students will have their regular lunch at school at 11:57-12:27.  There is no need for sack lunches this time.

SPRING BREAK!!!

We made it!  When we come back we will continue reviewing for CRCT, learning new things, and getting ready for the transition to 5th grade.    The Friday folders are going home today so the children won't have to remember to return them on Monday after the holidays.

Spring has sprung!

Spring is definitely in the air!  With springtime comes a host of outdoor activities for our children.  Unfortunately, many of them keep our students out later than usual at night.  Please keep in mind that we still have lots to learn at school.  Be sure to be consistent with bedtimes so your child will be able to keep up at school.  (We've had lots of sleepyheads lately.)  Thank you!

Market Day is here!

Friday, Mar. 27 is Market Day.  This would be a great time to clean out those closets, toy chests, and bookshelves!  Please send in your items Friday morning.  Our sale will be during Fun Friday that afternoon.  Thanks!

I hope you will come out and participate in our Book Fair at Barnes & Noble on Thursday night.  There will be storytellers and acticvities for our students.  Barnes & Noble will be donating a portion of the money they make to Dowell.  What a great way to promote their business and our school!

Report Cards!

Look for report cards on Thursday.  Please review the card and sign the signature card.  Your child will earn $50 for returning the signed signature card and envelope on Friday.  Thank you!

The students have done a fabulous job with their AR goals!  I have seen much progress this 9 weeks.  I hope the students learned that it is best to keep up with their reading all grading period long instead of waiting until the last few weeks!  Monday starts the last 9 weeks.  Students will have new goals at that time.  Please encourage your child to start strong and not wait until the last minute!  Thanks!

AR Goals Time!

AR goals are due next Friday, Mar. 14.  Thank you,  parents, for having your child work so hard toward his/her goal.  The payoff will not only be improved reading scores but hopefully,  a love for reading that your child will carry into adulthood!

FYI:  Last spring when we calculated the cost of all our field trips for the year the total cost was $60.00.  The cost for the aquarium trip has gone up $2.00 since then.  If you paid the $60.00 we need to collect the $2.00 so we will have enough to cover the cost of the trip.  I'm very sorry about this.  It's just one of those things that can't be helped.  Thank you for understanding!

If you have not yet paid for the aquarium trip, please do so ASAP.  We don't want to have to pay at the last minute!  Thank you!

Fourth Grade Writing Assessment Time

Wednesday and Thursday of this week the fourth grade students will be taking the Fourth Grade Writing Assessment.  We will be doing the prewriting/drafting section on Wed. and the final draft/editing part on Thurs.   We will be looking at the results of this assessment as we plan how to better instruct our students in writing.  Please encourage your child to do his/her best work.  Thank you!

In case your child didn't tell you, my new grandbaby was born on Monday in Wyoming.  Her name is Amelia Claire.  She weighed 8 lbs., 9 ozs. and she is 20.5 inches long.  Mother and baby are home and doing well.  Grandma will visit during Spring Break!
