     It is hard to believe that it is the end of the second nine week.  The second nine weeks ends Thursday, December 23.  Report cards will be sent home after we return from the holiday break.

     I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe holiday.  Please take the time during the busy days ahead to read and practice multiplication facts together.

     I would also like to thank everyone for making me feel so special with the "Holiday" bonus and many thoughtful gifts.  You really surprised me!  I do appreciate all that you do for me.

     Thank you to all the parents for sending in items to make our party a success.

                                                    Cruise Through Our Week

      It is hard to believe that we will finish up the first nine weeks period of school next week.  We have been working hard to reach our reading goals, mastery of our multiplication facts, and many new math concepts.                   
          Thank you, parents, for signing our Agendas and Thursday folders weekly.  Please continue to review the graded contracts that are placed in the Thursday folder and Weekly Homework sheet. Attendance is also very important because we learn new concepts daily.

       We will be taking the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills (ITBS) next week beginning on Monday, October 10.  The purpose of norm-referenced testing is to measure performance of Cobb students as they compare to a national sample of students who took the same test at the same time or year under the same conditions.

 Cruise Through Our Week

                    Our class has started fifth grade in a very positive way.  The new "checkbook" incentive has really made a hit.  Students are earning money for showing respect, exhibiting positive attitudes and work habits, organization, and teamwork.  Our class also likes to earn "Stars" on their individual cards.  Students earn stars when "caught" doing something positive.  I am proud of the class for trying to do their best.

              We have been busy learning new Math concepts.  We are learning about the divisibility rules, prime and composite numbers, and how to classify into subsets.  Please review the graded work in the Thursday folders to help your child further grasp these new skills.  We will soon be learning how to model and divide decimals.

               It is very important to review multiplication facts daily to understand the new concepts we will be learning.  Timed tests are given on a regular basis and results are sent home.  Knowing the multiplication facts is the foundation of the many new fifth grade concepts based on the Georgia Performance Standards.
