Our First Week
Our first week went great. The children are quickly learning our routines and each day gets better than the day before! Be sure to scroll down below this post to see what we have been doing in class.
I wanted to mention a couple of things that would be helpful to us.
Please send a bath sized towel with your child, not a beach towel. We are limited in storage and floor space at rest time. The towels will come home every Friday for washing. Please return them on Monday.
Also remember to send all money in an envelope with your child's name on it. Please tell what the money is for. We do not open these, they go straight to the school safe and are directed to the appropriate people/service.
Also, most of you are doing great, but please remember to initial the Behavior Calendar that comes home in the purple daily folder. This folder is a vital form of communication between us. Please be sure that all correspondence and money are in the folder. Mrs. Bailey found a couple of things down in backpacks quite by accident that were important! We rarely go into the backpacks, but do check the folders every morning, so be sure information is in them.
Also, our room sometimes get quite cold (even when the temperature is almost 100 outside)! Your child is welcome to bring a jacket. I usually have one on myself.
Our Star Student Schedule will come out in a few weeks. We will send home a big poster for you and your child to decorate several days before his/her week. Please feel free to add pictures, and color it to make it interesting. Be sure you review the info on it with your child as they will have a "share time" with the class. A letter will come home with the schedule suggesting things that your child may want to do to make it a special week.
Many thanks to those of you who have offered to volunteer in our room. I already have some mothers busy helping. If you have a particular day you would like to come, please let me know.

This week I read the book The Kissing Hand. It is the story of a mother raccoon's love extended to her baby as he goes off to school for the first time. She leaves him with a kiss in his palm, which he places against his cheek when he wants to feel the comfort of her love. We cut out and baked "Kissing Hand" cookies. The children ate the hands for snack, but we sent the hearts home to our Moms. We hope you enjoyed them!
Mrs. Bailey led the children in a "Body Parts" game. They partner up and match the body parts that she calls out. You can tell by the smiles that it was great fun!
Neck to neck...
