What an awesome first seven days we have had. My class is wonderful and full of lots of imagination and personality. I thoroughly look forward to teaching these young people this year and working with you, the parents. Together we will make the children very successful in 4th grade!
We have jumped in with both feet and have taken off with our curriculum. What are we doing this nine week grading period?
Language Arts: Narrative writing and How do I write to describe? We will also be studying parts of speech, types of sentences and subjects and predicates. Poetry will be a year long study.
Math: Place Value to the millions, Algebra, Data and Multiplication
Science: We will be switching with Mrs. Marcus for science every 2 weeks. She will begin with the water cycle.
Social Studies: Economics, Map and Globe skills and Explorers
*I am sure you are wondering about AR and the media center. As soon we are able to attend orientation in the media center I will set individual AR goals. Your child and I will meet weekly to see how they are doing with their goal and discuss any "glows or grows" as far as the goal is concerned.
From Ms. Komara:
On Monday we are implementing a new procedure for dismissal. In the interest of safety of students and for efficiency, we are asking that parents not wait in our lobby area. If you do wish to pick up your child, please wait until 2:25 to enter the building and then see Ray (in the front hall) with your car number. For those in the parking lot, staff will call your number, and when your child comes out of the building, he/she will report to a specific area and one of our staff members will then assist your child into the car unless you get out to buckle a child in. No cars will move until a block of cars has children inside, so that we won't have people crossing while cars are moving. The duty outside is hot and difficult, so we hope that you will be patient and pleasant with the staff who are trying to help children be safe.
We are so delighted with our dads = = thank all of you for your presence on campus the first few days of school. There is an All Pro Dad's breakfast, which you can attend and eat breakfast with your child, on August 19th
Alison Bartlet, who is one of our school board members, will be conducting a public forum at Dowell on Tuesday, August 24th from 6:00 to 8:00 in the Media Center. If you would like to provide her with your point of view, ask questions, or just become more informed about the Board's perspective on education, please plan to attend.
We also want to invite you to our Open House, which is September 2nd from 5:30 - 6:25 for K, 1,2 students and from 7 - 7:45 for grades 3, 4,and 5. PTA will have a meeting at 6:30, where they will introduce the new "3 for Me" volunteer program. Please come and support your child and support your school.
THANK YOU.
