One week down- one more to go :)

Remember that our holiday party will be this coming Friday (12/19/08). If you would like to help out in any way with that please let me know! Our class needs to  bring in pastries and donuts next week.

We will not be having a spelling test next week.

We are currently collecting coats and jackets for less fortunate families. This is being put on by the student council. What a great way to help at this holiday season.

Next Thursday will be our end of the second nine week tests in both language arts and math. Please help your child review long division and three by two multiplication.

I will be sending information about conferences after the winter break. :)

Thank you!

We have fully started our Read 180 program. We are still working out the kinks- but so far it is going well. When we meet in January I will show you the in's and out's of our new program.

Turkey Run!

Hello! I hope that you all are doing well!

A big thank you to those who were able to come for the VIP lunch yesterday! I know that the students had a wonderful time and I hope you did as well.

Remember that next week is our Fall Break! I am sure you all are looking forward to that.

As it is getting colder- please make sure your child comes to school with a heavy jacket.

Friday we will be having "Thanksgiving" Rotations tomorrow. The class will move together through all of the classes and participate in holiday themed activities.

Also- our holiday party will be coming up quickly after Thanksgiving break.  We do ours as a grade level- be looking for information on this after we return! :)

Remember also- that students need to practice their recorder for music through the week to prepare for the next meeting.

Academic alerts went home this week. Please make sure that if your child received one the bottom part is signed and returned to me.

If you did not receive one, your child has nothing below a B average in all subject areas. If you would like to know their averages please email me and I will send one home for you. (kimberly1.mitchell@cobbk12.org) Our server will be down the week we are out- so I will not be able to see email sent after Friday until December 1, 2009.

When we return we will be starting a great new program called Read 180.  It is a Scholastic Reading Program. There is a small mini-lesson- then three rotations of computer, independent work then small group meeting. We already do rotations, so it will not be a huge adjustment for them.

Thank you!

Have a happy Thanksgiving! J

Fall Fun!!!

Hello Everyone!

I just wanted to remind you that this Friday (September 26) Dowell will be having our Fall Festival. There will be a fitness area in the gym, inflatables, as well as many other very fun activities!! It is from 5-8 pm at Dowell. Tickets are $7.00 at the door!

The book fair will be there as well. I sent home the Scholastic Book order form- only to find out that we no longer are able to order them through the school. I sent the money and order form back home with the student if they  brought that it. I am sorry for the confusion. This is the first year they are doing it differently. On the plus side!! The Scholastic Book Fair will be here starting during the Fall Festival and all the way through the next week.  They are able to purchase the books there. :)

Also coming up is Dowell Math Night at Publix. It will be at the Publix on Dallas Highway on October 9, 2008.

Here is the schedule for that:

6-6:45 Last Names N-Z

6:45-7:00 PTA Meeting

7:00-7:45 Last Names A-M

Please come out and show your Dowell Support!!! :)

Here are this weeks spelling words

addition, appear, asks, catalog, certainly, collecting, complicated, detailed, encountered, filing, foundation, children, however, usually, fall, late, into, shout, summer, weather

We do not have vocabulary words this week. Our day is very full and I have not had the time I would like to fully cover these words. Hopefully, next week I will have a literacy center set up that will focus on the weeks vocabulary words.

Also- I am looking for a room parent- please let me know if you are interested in this! I have one parent who can help on the side- but would need another parent to be the main room parent and she could help on the side :)

Please feel free to contact me if you have any more questions!

I hope you all had a very restful long weekend!

We are well into the grove of things in the 4th grade. The rules, routines and expectations are set and the students know them. They are doing wonderfully.

Please make sure you initial student agendas nightly. They receive marbles each day it is signed. This also makes sure you know what they are doing here at school and what their homework assignments are.

Thank you for doing such a great job bringing in healthy snacks!! I have seen lots of fruits and veggies :)
