New lunchroom rules to begin Monday, January 29, 2007.

After noticing students not finishing their meal in their thirty minute lunch period, Dowell has decided to implement a five minute quiet time when the students enter the cafeteria.  All students will be expected to be quiet during the first five minutes of their lunch period.  During this time, it is our hope that students will begin eating their lunch and not lose track of time because of socializing with their friends.  After the five minute quiet time, the students will be allowed to talk quietly for the remainder of the lunch period.  Please communicate this new procedure to your child. Thanks for your continued support.

Dear Parents,

On Tuesday, December 5, Dowell will be having an art show.  The art work will display pieces of all of the students work.  During this time, the kindergarten students will be performing 2 holiday songs.  We would like for your child to attend, along with the support of the parents.  Therefore, please make sure that you accompany your child.  Please have your child arrive at the school cafeteria at 6:45pm.  The performance will be over at 7:30pm.  We hope to see you all there.

El martes, 5 de diciembre, Dowell tendrá un programa de arte.  Durante este evento, se mostrará diferentes obras de arte de los estudiantes.  Los estudiantes de Kindergarten estarán cantando 2 canciones de Navidad.  Quisieramos que su hijo(a) asistiera, junto con Ustedes los padres.  Si pueden asistir, favor de acompañar a sus hijos durante el tiempo entero

programa.  Favor de llegar con su hijo(a) a la cafeteria de la escuela a las

6:45 p.m. en punto.  El programa terminará a las 7:30 p.m.  ¡Esperamos verlos todos allí!

Montalvo's Messages/Art Night

Parents, family and friends, please mark your calendars and join the celebration of your children's art creations and a performance of the Dowell Singers. This is a fundraiser for both the music and visual arts programs.  Please come enjoy this exciting evening with us. Every child will have an original piece of artwork in the show! We willl have refreshments and singing in the cafeteria and the art show will be in the gym!  Please look for more information in the next few weeks!! Dec.5th is the big night!!!  6:30-8:00pm.

Library Books
Dowell's media center will be switching to a different software system over the next few weeks.  Due to the changing of software systems all books that students have checked out need to be brought back to school by November 15.   Students will still be allowed to read books through the 17th, but again all books need to be back at school by November 15.  Students will be allowed to check out books again on December 4.  Thank you for your cooperation!

Kid Writing

Sumtimez the wae werds sownd iz not the saem as the wae theay look. Yung readers and riters need time to fokuz on the message and will spell werds using the sounds thay heer. As thay becom more awar of conventional speling, u will begin 2 sea the chang. Parents, encourage your child to write at least one sentence every night. Kid spelling is encouraged and welcomed.

Do you know what is G>>R>>E>>A>>T about Kindergarten? Zoo Phonics!  Through games and other phonics materials, this program makes the connection between reading, spelling, literature and student writing. The Zoo-phonics Program teaches the alphabet using a cast of Animal characters and sounds, and a body movement that directly relates to the Animal/Letter, allowing children to utilize the alphabet immediately.

Monday... When I say no to drugs I show leadership.

(wear a necktie to look like a President)

Tuesday... I show responsibility when I "lei" off drugs.

(wear a Hawaiian shirt and lei)

Wednesday... I defend my character when I have the courage to say no.

(wear camouflage clothes)

Thursday... Players are trustworthy when they are drug free.

(wear a team uniform)

Friday... I show good citizenship when I am drug free.

(Wear patriotic clothes)
