Week of 9/4

This week will be a little strange.  3rd and 5th graders will begin taking the CoGAT and ITBS tests on Wednesday and Thursday and will continue to next week as well.  Due to this testing, I have to test my 3rd graders, resulting in all other students remaining in their homerooms for the morning Reading/Language Arts Block.  This will be a good chance to see how well your kids can perform and interact in a general education class when normally they wouldn't be.  I am excited to hear how well they are doing.

Due to testing, I have limited the work load.  There will be no spelling words this week and we will be working on sight words and word families review.   We will be working on time in math, continuing to improve our clock reading and interpreting skills.

Things have been going wonderfully and each day brings something new.

I hope to see you all at OPEN HOUSE on Thursday the 7th at 7:"00!

Week of 8/28-9/1

This week in Language Arts we will begin our second spelling unit.  The spelling words were sent home with your student on Monday and each day there will be ample time for practice and homework will be given accordingly.   Other skills in Language Arts this week include, introduction of new sight words, word families -and, -ang, and grammar  practice finding synonyms and antonyms.

Reading this week will be tied into our favorite foods.  We will read stories in groups, with a partner, as a class, and individually.  We will begin using  graphic organizers to get out thoughts together, as well as be better able to write about foods in our journals.   We will even type our journal entries on the computers in the library on Thursday.  Friday will be fun Friday where we will conclude our favorite foods unit by enjoying some of our favorite foods.  If you would like, please send in a sample of your students favorite food for the entire class to try.  I am not expecting a lot of food, enough for each person, only a small amount for one taste per student would be good.

We have a lot going on and I am excited about continuing the school year as awesome as the beginning has been!
