February News!

  Tonight is the Black History program at Hillgrove High School.  It begins at 6:30.  We’d love for you to come!

 

Next Wednesday is our field trip to the Chattahoochee Nature Center.  If you have not returned your child’s permission slip and money, please do so by tomorrow.  We need to send in our final count tomorrow afternoon.

 

We have been practicing for The Arts Night performance on March 8^th.  If your child will be able to participate, please be sure to let me know.  If you have lost the original form, you can just write a note on the homework signing sheet.

 

Important Survey Information

Attention Parents!  Please make sure you take a few minutes to fill out the Dowell Elementary School 2011-2012 Parent Involvement Survey.  The information we gather from your responses will be so helpful to us in planning the activities and opportunities we offer for parents next year.  Please return completed surveys back to school as soon as possible!  Thank you for your ongoing support.

January 30, 2011

Students will need a flashlight on Thursday, Feb 2nd.  Yes, that's Groundhog's Day and we have some really fun things in store!  If you have a small flashlight your child can bring to school, please put their name somewhere on it, and it will be returned Thursday afternoon! I am sure you will hear a lot about the day!!

Thursday night is COSMIC BOWLING!!!! This is such a fun night!! Don't forget to preorder your tickets to get your preferred bowling time!  There will be pizza, cotton candy (Mrs. Pszczola's favorite!!), snow cones, glow necklaces for sale and much, much more!!!  You won't want to miss this night!

Book Fair is also going on right now!  If you would like your child to purchase a book from the book fair, send in money this week.  The book fair will also be open on Thursday night, during Cosmic Bowling.

Your child can be practicing math facts at home on FAST MATH!  The website and log in information was given to you at fall conferences.  If you have lost the information, please send a quick note and I will send it home with your child.  There are many great websites for fun practice games on Mrs. Pfeiffer's computer lab link on the Dowell web page!  Try to have your child spend some of their game time playing games to help them learn!

Welcome Back!!!

Welcome back to school!  I am so excited for all the fun we will be having in the coming months!  We will be working hard and learning a lot!

The students are beginning to run out of their supplies from the start of the year!  If possible, please send in glue sticks, crayons, and baby wipes.  Thanks so much for your help!

 

It's Winter Party Time

We are beginning to plan our Winter Party.  It will be on December 22nd.  Each child is asked to send in $5.00 to cover the cost of the food and craft supplies.  Please try to send this in before December 16^th. 

Our Winter Party will be in the morning.  We will enjoy breakfast treats, fun crafts, games and activities.  After the party, we will clean up and pack up all of our holiday things and then watch a movie.  It will be a well deserved break from a hard first half of First Grade!

 

I am also asking for toilet paper rolls or paper towel rolls.  If you can send these in I would greatly appreciate it!

December News

Thanks to everyone that came to Barnes and Noble night.  It was a great success and our puppy dog faces were adorable!

Please be on the lookout in Thursday folders for a letter about our holiday party.  It will be on Dec. 22.  Thanks in advance for your help making our party a success.

Thursday night is our Dinner Theater put on by our very own honor chorus!  Dinner is served from 5:30 - 6:30 with the entertainment starting at 6:45.  I hope I will see you there!

 

November News

Don't forget your pillowcase for tie dying on Thursday.  We will be using them to make fun Indian costumes to wear on out VIP day!

Plan to join your child for lunch on Nov. 16th at 12:15 for an old fashioned Thanksgiving lunch!  This is a special time for the children to eat with their parents, grandparents, aunts or uncles.  They are always so excited to have family with them for lunch that day!

Barnes and Noble Night is coming up fast!  First grade will be performing a short song that evening at the Barnes and Noble in the Avenue on Dallas Highway!  If you have not returned your child's slip and they want to participate, please send it as soon as possible!  We will be practicing next week and after Thanksgiving break.

Come and help us celebrate the many cultures and countries represented at Dowell!

All families are invited to attend, and we are hoping many families are also willing to share their cultural heritage through artifacts, food, and more.

Next Thursday, Oct. 20^th is our first grade field trip to the Theatre in the Square. 

The week of the 24^th – 28^th is conference week.  School will be dismissed two hours early every day.  Conferences are being held from 12:40 – 4:30 each day.  I look forward to speaking with all of you about your child’s progress.  Thank you in advance for taking the time to meet with me and for being on time to your conference.  We have a lot to cover and time is limited.

Oct. 28^th is the Fall Festival.  This is another great family night of fun.  See the flyer in today’s Thursday folder for details.

Tomorrow we will be having our classroom AR celebration at lunch with a pizza party. 

On Monday, we will be having out grade level dance party celebration for AR.  All students that have passed at least 8 quizzes will be able to participate in both of these activities.

Next 9 weeks the AR goal is 18 passed quizzes!  Please make sure your child reads their AR book every night and is  ready to pass at leasst 2 quizzes each week!  Together we can all meet this goal!
