Our wonderful class has set sail with a determination to have a successful year.
Our instructional time begins promptly at 8:00 with our math computation. Then we move into the math lesson for the day, followed by guided math groups. Since there are two teachers in the room, Mrs. Donato and Mrs. Pharr can each teach a guided math group at the same time and follow a rotation schedule that allows each student to be included in a group. Other students are working at the computers on assigned lessons or doing assigned independent practice work while they are waiting to come to guided math group. We have so much going on at the same time and can monitor all of it.
Practice math facts at home, especially the subtraction facts 0-18. We are applying those facts in class each day. Students should come into third grade knowing the addition and subtraction facts.
Daily Reading folders go home each day except Friday. Thank you for reading with the students at home and signing the folders.
Open House is on Thursday, September 15, beginning at 5:30 for session 1, followed by PTA meeting and then session 2. We hope all our families can attend.
We have worked on rocks and minerals in science.
Now, we are exploring Greece and the country's influence on buildings and the Olympic Games. We will see how our democratic form of government originated in Greece.
Mrs. Jacobs, the Target teacher at Dowell, comes into our classroom every other week and teaches a lesson on critical thinking skills. Her lessons support our developing critical thinking in all the work we do. The students really enjoy the lessons and actively participate.
Thank you for the notes about any changes in the way a student goes home.
Thank you for your support at home.
We are having a great year!
