Spelling Assessment

There will be an assessment this Friday on list 14 words located in the back of the 2nd Grade Handbooks which were sent home last Thursday.   Please begin studying list 15 after tomorrow.  There will be NO assessment the week of December 19-22.

Reading Vocabulary – fable, foolish, crawled, climbed, leap, plopped

Language Arts Skills & Vocabulary –  using possessive nouns correctly (ex. a boy's coat -all the boys' coats), using possessive pronouns (his, mine, etc.), homonyms (I wind my watch.  The wind is blowing.), singular & plural nouns, writing a paragraph with a main idea, supporting details,  & correct capitalization/punctuation- friendly letter, heading, greeting, body, closing, signature, comma (using commas correctly in a letter & a series),

Math Skills and Vocabulary – 

  • counting money using bills & coins
  • giving back change from $10
  • telling time to 5 minutes
  •  place value to 999
  • 2 digit subtraction with & without regrouping (borrowing)
  • subtraction using estimating
  • checking subtraction with addition
  • Venn diagrams
  • plane figures (geometric shapes 2-D)
  • using plane shapes to make new figures
  • solid figures (geometric shapes 3-D)
  • vertex, vertices
  • edges, sides,
  • angles-acute angle, right angle (square corner), obtuse angle

Science  Vocabulary – motion, force, friction

Social Studies Vocabulary – George Washington Carver, Eloy Rodriguez, table, goods, services

AR 

  • Students should read at least 14 or more AR books with an AR score of 80% or higher by tomorrow.  Reading chapter books earns extra stickers (25 pages equals 1 sticker, 50 pages equals 2 stickers, etc.).  
  • We are beginning a new 9 week grading period.  Students are working towards our new AR goal which will be at least 17 books or more by the end of the grading period.  This is a change from 18 books due to the short week before the holidays.  If students reach their goal before the end of the 9 weeks, they should continue reading at least 2 AR books per week.

  • We will try to reschedule the New Echota field trip which was canceled due to rain.  I will send out more information as I receive it.
  • Please make sure your child is here every day & on time.  We will be doing testing & evaluations from now until the holiday break.
