Spelling Assessment
There will be an assessment this Friday (tomorrow) on list 23 words located in the back of the 2nd Grade Handbooks. Start studying list 24 after tomorrow's assessment.
Reading Vocabulary – poem, rhymes, images, stanza, rude, extraordinary, keen
Language Arts Skills to Review for CRCT:
- using possessive nouns correctly (ex. a boy's coat -all the boys' coats)
- combining sentences using and or the word or. (Jo is playing. Sara is playing. = Jo and Sara are playing.) (Mother bakes cookies. Mother decorates cookies. = Mother bakes and decorates cookies.)
- using quotation marks correctly ("We need to go grocery shopping," said Mary.)
- writing a paragraph with a main idea, supporting, supporting details, and correct capitalization/punctuation
- writing a "how to" paragraph using words like: first, next, then, after that, finally, at last, etc.
- subject, predicate, noun, verb, pronoun
- using possessive pronouns (his, mine, etc.)
- antonyms - opposites (up-down)
- synonyms - same or almost the same (cool-cold)
- homonyms (I wind my watch. The wind is blowing.)
- singular & plural nouns
Math Skills to Review for CRCT:
- length, foot, yard, centimeter, meter, estimate, tool, unit (for measuring)
- adding & subtracting 3 digit numbers with and without regrouping
- identifying & comparing fractions ( ex. Which is larger 1/2 or 1/4 ...2/3 or 1/3, etc.)
- giving back change from $20 (new skill)
- counting money using bills & coins
- telling time to 5 minutes
- place value to 999
- 2 digit subtraction with & without regrouping (borrowing)
- subtraction using estimating
- checking subtraction with addition
- Venn diagrams
- plane figures (geometric shapes 2-D)
- using plane shapes to make new figures
- solid figures (geometric shapes 3-D)
