Spring Break Challenge!  Students will receive their Spring Break Challenge tomorrow.  The challenge consists of reading the latest edition of Time for Kids and completing a comprehension quiz and a time line worksheet.  Students also have a short math review (one page) and a science reading comprehension packet.  I encourage ALL students to complete this work so that they can stay in the “school mode” before the CRCT.

A look at the past few weeks

We have been busy reviewing for the CRCT!  The kids seem very prepared and I am confident that they will do their best! 

Reminder: The CRCT begins on Tuesday, April 12^th and ends on April 18^th.  Please make sure that your child eats a proper breakfast and gets to school on time.  Also, please send back the important information that I sent home last Thursday in the manila envelope.  This is due to me tomorrow! 

Field Trip Reminder: Our field trip to the Georgia Aquarium is on April 28^th.   Please send in the $18.00 donation if you haven’t already done so. Thank you!

Fifth Grade T-Shirts on Sale: 5^th grade t-shirts are still for sale.  They are $6.00 each.

Yearbooks:  There are only 50 yearbooks still for sale.  Get your yearbook today!

Reminders: Please make sure that your child is completing his/her homework nightly.  I would like to thank all parents who have been diligent about checking their child’s homework throughout the year.  Your dedication to your child has not gone unnoticed!

A Look at Our Week

Math:   Last week the children explored volume and derived the formula for finding volume (Volume= length x width x height.)  This week we have been practicing finding volume using the formula and have also been discussing the similarities and differences between volume and capacity. 

Math Monthly Review:  Your child should be working on his/her March Math Calendar nightly.  If there is a question that your child and you do not understand, please write me a note and I can help your child during the school day. Please make sure that your child is showing his/her work on a separate sheet of paper.  Thanks for your support!

Reading/Language Arts:  The children have been reading dramatic literature (plays) for the past two weeks.  The children have learned about the different elements of dramatic literature and seem to enjoy practicing their parts with their classmates.

Writing: The 5^th grade Writing Assessment is completed!  The results usually take over a month to receive, so I will send home the scores as soon as I get them.  I will also notify you through my newsletter that they have arrived. 

Social Studies: The children are reading about World War I in their R.I.C.A. center this week.

Field Trip Reminder: We will be going to The Mablehouse on March 25^th.  Our field trip to the Georgia Aquarium is on April 28^th.  If you haven’t done so, please send in the $9.00 for The Mablehouse and $18.00 for the Aquarium as soon as possible!

The Middle School Articulation Visit: Students going to Smitha and Lovinggood next year will visit their future middle school on March 31^st.  Students attending Tapp next year will go on May 4^th.  Permission slips should be sent home next week.

Dowell Arts Night is tonight! You are invited to Dowell's Arts Night from 5-7 pm.  Come enjoy an evening of the Arts: An art show featuring your student’s framed artwork and music by Dowell students.   Art Show opens at 5 pm in the gym and performances begin at 5:30 pm in the cafeteria! 

This is a fund-raiser for the art program here at Dowell! Frames with your child’s art work will be available for purchase.  Cash or check only, please!
