Doing Outstanding Work to Ensure the Love of Learning
A LOOK AT THE PAST FEW WEEKS
Math: The children have learned how to find the circumference of a circle, how to estimate the area of a circle and how to find the actual area of circle over the past 2 weeks. Please continue to work with your child on any homework that he/she may have on these concepts. The biggest problem that we are seeing is that the children are getting the formula for the circumference of a circle mixed up with the formula for finding the area of a circle. Also, please make sure that your child is working on his/her math review calendar each night. We will be grading these at the end of the month. Today we began learning about customary capacity. Please ask your child to show you “G Land” and have them explain to you how it will help them when comparing and converting capacity. They did an awesome job with capacity and were able to make many real-world connections to capacity
Reading/Language Arts: We began reading dramatic literature in our guided reading groups and also identified the many elements (Scenes, acts, cast of characters, stage direction etc.) We will continue reading these plays next week.
Writing: The children are continuing to work on their persuasive essays. Today the entire fifth took a practice writing assessment on a persuasive essay topic. Please be on the lookout for more information once we get back your child’s results.
Social Studies: Our World War II unit has finished and we are now on to science. Plants and animal cells is the first topic of study.
Fifth Grade Field Trip! This year we will be going to the Desoto Caverns and the Blue Bell Creamery in Alabama. Please see the field trip information in your child’s Thursday Folder.
Valentine’s Day: We have included a class list in this week’s Thursday Folder. Children are more than welcome to bring in valentines on Tuesday; however, it is NOT mandatory.
