Book Drive

The School Council is sponsoring the book drive.  We are collecting new and "gently used" children's books to give to out for summer reading.  The importance of summer reading has been demonstrated repeatedly in a variety of research studies. Over and over again, it has been shown that children who read during the summer do much better in school when it starts again in the fall. On the other hand, children who do not read during the summer demonstrate a significant loss over the summer.  Our goal is to offer any child (and their siblings) a book for the summer.  When doing your spring cleaning, should you come across any books your special little cherubs have out grown (beginning board books on up through middle-school level)  I would love to have them to add to our collection!  What could be better than a win-win situation --added space on your book shelves and precious reading materials to help other children!   We are collecting books through April 23.  Thanks for your time, generosity and assistance with this project!

Dowell Dash

The Dowell PTA is proud to announce our Spring Fundraiser--The Dowell Dash.  The Dowell Dash is a 30 minute session where the students run laps to raise money to support our school and be run next Friday, March 20th.  Your student(s) were sent home with a donation form today.  They are to simply ask friends and family members to sponsor them with a dollar amount per lap and because there is no selling involved it can even be done with a phone call--no need to carry around a brochure.  There will be an average of 25-30 laps per child with a maximum of 40 laps.  The money pledged will be collected the following week and will need to be sent in by March 27th.  The goal of this fundraiser is to raise enough money to purchase a Poster Maker and a new Laminator the the school.
Of course what would a fundraiser be without prizes, so here we go.
Raise:
$50 or more -- receive a medal.
$100 or more-- entered in a raffle for a Wii (or $200 per family)
Top $$ raising Classes--
1st place class--$100 for the teacher and treats for the entire class
2nd place class--$50 for the teacher and treats for the entire class
3rd place class--$25 for the teacher and treats for the entire class
Also:
The Top 10 students and the top 3 teachers from the top fundraising classes will get to throw a pie in Mr. Manson's face!!!!
If you have any questions please contact me at  kathy@dowellpta.org

Thank you for your support.

Teacher Appreciation

Dear Parents,

It is almost the end of another school year, with this comes a great opportunity to honor all the teachers that have taught our children. The week of May 12th Dowell Elementary will celebrate “Teacher Appreciation Week”. During this week we would like the students and parents to participate by bringing these items each day to celebrate their teacher(s).

            Monday-         Bring a Flower

            Tuesday-         Bring a Balloon

            Wednesday-    Bring a Sweet Treat

            Thursday-       Bring a Homemade Card

Friday-             Bring a surprise of your choice

Dowell Elementary School is very lucky to have such a wonderful staff of teachers, specialists and paraprofessionals for our teachers. Please help us honor them!  PTA will be providing Mini Spa Treatments, lunch one day during the week and coffee and dougnuts.

Thank you,
