Teacher Appreciation

Dear Parents,

It is almost the end of another school year, with this comes a great opportunity to honor all the teachers that have taught our children. The week of May 12th Dowell Elementary will celebrate “Teacher Appreciation Week”. During this week we would like the students and parents to participate by bringing these items each day to celebrate their teacher(s).

            Monday-         Bring a Flower

            Tuesday-         Bring a Balloon

            Wednesday-    Bring a Sweet Treat

            Thursday-       Bring a Homemade Card

Friday-             Bring a surprise of your choice

Dowell Elementary School is very lucky to have such a wonderful staff of teachers, specialists and paraprofessionals for our teachers. Please help us honor them!  PTA will be providing Mini Spa Treatments, lunch one day during the week and coffee and dougnuts.

Thank you,

Dowell PTA

Science Night/Reflections/Veterans' Breakfast

The November PTA meeting was busy to say the least.  The night started with a banquet for all the participants in the Reflections--we had 73 entries this year.  That's an increase of about 20 over last year and we hope to have over 100 next year.  The winners from the school level will now go on to the next level of judging.  The banquet was followed by a brief PTA meeting and then off to the halls for Science Night.  It was a blast!!!  The kids really loved the telephone made from cans and a string, Oobleck was a real hit and just what caused that sound when you spun the washer in the balloon?.  K-2nd grade teachers did a great job to make it a memorable night for the students.   The week ended with a Veteran's Day Breakfast to honor our local Veterans.  The Veterans were provided a delicious breakfast followed by an out of this world performance by the Dowell Singers and a few special guest.

The PTA board would like to thank the teachers and parents who have worked so hard to put together all these wonderful events.  We can do a lot when we all work together.  Thanks to all who make Dowell a great school for our students to attend.

Fall Festival

The PTA would like to thank everyone who came out to the Fall Festival Friday night.  It was a huge success!!!!  Everyone seemed to be having a great time, I know my family did.  Thank you to all the volunteers who helped set up, run the concessions, man the games and control the inflatables. Without you it would have not been possible.  Dowell is really an awesome school and the turn out at the Festival is proof that our Dowell Family can do a lot when we work together.

Just a reminder, Bookfair is next week, October 22-26.  The hours are 7:15-3:30.  Red Ribbon week is also next week with a different theme each day.  Monday-wear your cool sunglasses, Tuesday-dress in your favorite sports team, Wednesday-wear business dress, Thursday-wear pajamas and Friday wear RED.  Reflection projects are also due on Friday, October 26.

Thanks again,

Kathy Layberger

October!!!!

October is off to a great start with Math Night tonight.  I hope everyone had as much fun as my kids and I did.  The students had a great time using math in real life situation.  I would like to thank Publix, the parent and teacher volunteers and all who came out to Publix to support Math Night.  Without you events like this would not be possible.

If you missed Math Night don't worry there are tons of other events scheduled for the month.  Fall Festival is Friday the 19th from 5-8.  The pre-sale price is $5 per person--available now or $6 per person at the gate.  There will be lots of games, crafts and food.  We look forward to seeing you all there.  Bookfair is also this month, it will begin on the 19th(open during Fall Festival) and run through the 26th.  Please make time to come by the media center and check out all the great books available.  Reflections is a PTA sponsored art contest.  Students can submit entries in six different categories such as written work, photography and drawing.  The theme this year is, I make a difference by...  PTA will sponsor and open Reflections day on October 12th from 3-5.  Students will be provided art supplies to work on the projects.  All entries must be submitted by October 26th for judging.

We also have Stevi B's night on the 9th and Spirit Day on the 26th.

Again, thanks for making Dowell a great place for our children to learn.

Email Notification Service

Parents
The service that we use to automatically notify you when the blog is updated has changed their terms of service in such a way that an ad will begin showing up at the bottom of the email that comes to you. Your email address is still not being shared with anyone other than the school! The mere placement of advertising in school communications is of concern to us, especially since we have no control over what the ad may be.

We are exploring other means of providing this service to you at this time. For now, we ask your patience as we work through the concern. In the meantime, if you receive an ad that is objectionable to you, we would appreciate your notifying the school, and holding onto it so that it may be forwarded to proper personnel.

Thank you for your patience!

Sneak A Peek

Well, Sneak a Peek is over and we are on our way to the first day of school.  I hope everyone was able to get by the school to check out your student's classroom.  We had a lot of positive feedback on the new Spirit Wear.  If you did not order your new t-shirt or get your PTA membership today never fear, there will be an order form coming home the first week of school.  Wouldn't it be great to have 100% membership this year?!?!?

Remember, if you need to get in touch with a PTA member just email us at dowellpta@gmail.com, call me @404-401-7059 or send a message to school.

See you all soon,
