What we are learning:
These are the essential questions for our Standards and Units of Study:
Social Studies – How do American Folktales characterize our national heritage? The past few weeks we have been studying Johnny Appleseed, Annie Oakley, Davey Crocket, Paul Bunyan and Babe and John Henry. These folktales are bigger than life in their tall tales that have helped to shape America.
Phonics – How do I read short vowel sounds in one syllable words? We have studied and identified words that contain the short vowels ă, ĕ, ĭ, ŏ, and ŭ. When you go to the store or get gas help your child find short vowels words. For example, gas, ink pen, mop, cup.
Reading – How do I draw conclusions from information read? The students have had to draw conclusions about sentences, stories and pictures using context clues. For example, when the light turns red, you must what? The conclusion would be – Stop.
Mathematics – How do I apply addition and subtraction to two digit numbers? Students have practiced adding ones and tens place values and subtracting from the ones and tens place. We have also been completing several of the common assessments for this nine weeks.

Creativity Night – Thursday, May 12, 2011
Come join us at Creativity Night on May 12th. Dinner will be served beginning at 5:30 pm followed by live performances beginning at 6:00 pm. All proceeds from this event with help finance Dowell’s Odyssey of the Mind trip to World Finals in College Park, Maryland.
End of Year Activities
Please remember that your child needs to bring in their donation of $3.00 for all activities for the last week of school. Money is due by Friday, May 13th.
