How we are navigating....
These are the essential questions for our Stands and Units of Study:
Reading – How do I identify the main idea and details of a fictional story? We have read several stories and have identified the main idea and details. As you are reading stories at home, please be sure to ask what the story is mainly about.
Phonics– How do I generate the sound for short vowels? We have studied and identified words in the -ip, -ig, and –ill families. Play the rhyming game at home by having your child say as many words as possible that rhyme with each word family. For example – -ig, pig, wig, dig, and fig for a few.
Social Studies - What contributions were made by Benjamin Franklin? We have read several books about Benjamin Franklin. We have identified many of his inventions, different things he started, and how he was a “Founding Father” of the United States of America.
Writing – How do I become a great writer? We are establishing our routine for Writer’s Workshop time. Students have written sentences about things they can do. They have also written a story about themselves.
Mathematics – How do I complete addition and subtraction facts through 10 and solve word problems? The students have learned the strategies of counting pictures, counting objects, taking away objects, crossing out pictures, and have used dice to practice addition and subtraction facts to 10.

Supplies
Thank you for your generous donations of supplies for our classroom. It is hard to believe we have already used over 20 glue sticks, so if you happen to be shopping, navigate your way to the school supply aisle and pick up a package or two for the class. We would greatly appreciate your thoughtfulness.
AR Tests
The students went to the library last week and were able to check out AR Leveled books (Pink Dot Book) to read for a comprehension test. Please be sure to read the book with them and ask them questions about the story. Each student should pass at least 2 tests a week. We can also use parent volunteers (shipmates) to come in and help read the test to the students. Please let me know if you are available and up for the task.
