How we are navigating:
These are the essential questions for our Standards and Units of Study:
Reading – How do I use what I know to understand how stories work? We are identifying the cause and effect in stories. One of our favorite stories has been, The Napping House, where the flea bit the mouse, the mouse scared the cat, the cat clawed the dog, the dog bumped the child, the child bumped the Granny, and the Granny broke the bed.
Phonics – How do I read words containing consonant blends? In Words Their Way, we are reviewing the consonant blends fl, sl, pl, and bl. We have also reviewed the letters k, r and u. Look around your house or neighborhood and see if your child can identify any items that begin with a consonant blend. For example, playpen, slide, blanket, flag and plow.
Social Studies – What is our global address? Students have discovered that the earth has 7 continents and 5 oceans. Be sure to ask your child to sing the Continent Song. Our global address includes, us living on planet earth, the continent of North America, the State of Georgia, the county of Cobb and the cities of Marietta/Powder Springs. The students did a great job on completing their Address Worksheet for homework.
Writing – How do I write a personal narrative? Students have been writing a personal narrative on a gift they would like to give someone else and why. Please have your child practice writing complete sentences with the high frequency words on the back of their homework sheet each night.
Mathematics – How do I use addition and subtraction facts to make Fact Families? Students have been learning how to take 3 numbers and make 4 number sentences. For example: 8, 2, 10 8+2=10, 2+8=10, 10-8=2, 10-2=8. The trick is to remember that you can only use the 3 numbers in each number sentence.
