WONDERFUL 1ST WEEK!!!

We are splashing into learning!!!

Our 1st day of school was packed full of fun.  Our goal was to WOW your child and get them motivated about learning.  We had a week full of testing. We are excited to have completed all that daunting yet important business. We are excited for the rest of the year.

Things to remember:

• check and sign your child's agenda daily for behavior and homework assignments
• homework is given on every Monday and is to be returned on every Friday
• please check and sign all homework packets or it will be considered late
• 3 - 5 AR test are expected to be taken by each Thursday
• donations are appreciated and accepted throughout the year, and we are always in need of (tissue, snacks, hand soap, pencils, craft supplies, etc.)

Academics for the weeks of:

August 20th - August 31st

Writing: paragraph writing - your child will write one paragraph with at least five sentences with ten or more words per sentence - one main idea sentence with four supporting sentences - focusing on three standards (engaging the reader, sensory detail, and excludes extraneous details)

Reading: Literary Elements - your child will be able to identify the four parts to literary elements of a story in whole group reading and small group guided reading.

Language Arts: adjectives and nouns- know what adjectives and nouns are and identify each in any genre of literature and writing.

Health: nutrition food chart

Science: scientific method and science safety

Social Studies: your child will learn and know the characteristics of the five U.S. regions, and map skills

Math: place value

We are extremely passionate about teaching children how to become fluent readers.  Please assist us in helping your child by ensuring that they are consistently reading each night.

FYI - we are working to have 100% participation in our PTA. The fee is $5, so please join our PTA to make Dowell a great place to learn and grow for children by supporting our PTA.
