TEACHING AND LEARNING IS FANTASTIC

To teach is to learn and to learn is to teach!!

"I think the one lesson I have learned is that there is no substitute for paying attention."    Diane Sawyer

We are excited about all the wonderful learning that is going on in our classroom. When children are learning, they then become wonderful teachers to one another. We have a community environment in our classroom where children feel safe to be themselves, share with others when they feel successful, and ask for help when they do not.

Things to remember:

·        check and sign your child's agenda daily for behavior and homework assignments

·        homework is given every Monday and is to be returned every Friday

·        please check and sign all homework packets or it will be considered late

·        3 - 5 AR test are expected to be taken and passed with 80% or higher by each Thursday

·        donations are appreciated and accepted throughout the year, and we are always in need of CUPS, tissue, snacks, hand soap, pencils, craft supplies, etc.

Academics for:

September 17th thru September 28th

Writing: Narrative Writing - your child will take what they have learned about paragraph writing and apply that to a piece of narrative writing; creating a story that has at least five paragraphs with a beginning, middle and an end (BME), focusing on four standards (engaging the reader, sensory detail, establishing literary elements, and closure)

Reading: Main Idea and Compare/Contrast - your child will be able to identify the main idea of a story as well as compare and contrast important events in a story in whole group reading and small group guided reading.

Language Arts: conjunctions - your child will learn what a conjunction is, when they are used and to incorporate them in their writing to create complex sentences

Health: Health, Hygiene, and Fitness - your child will work on a project that is due around the first week in October. They are working on lessons dealing with skin care, teeth care, vision and hearing, and fitness.

Science: Weather - we are learning about how to predict the weather and all the instruments required to predict weather and what they are used for

Social Studies: your child will learn about French and Dutch exploration

We are extremely passionate about teaching children how to become fluent readers who comprehend everything they read.  Please assist us in helping your child by ensuring that they are consistently reading each night.

FYI - September 28th field trip to Red Top Mountain. Each child will need to have a signed permission slip to attend along with a $9.00 donation.

Kudos:

·        to the Allah family for donating snacks, to the Alonzo family for a donation to the water machine that bought cups, to the Benjamin family for snacks, and to the Harris/Lomax family for donating time to copy, file, sort, and organize for Mrs. Adams and I.

If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email Mrs. Adams or Ms. Wilson at anytime.

Email Notification Service

Parents
The service that we use to automatically notify you when the blog is updated has changed their terms of service in such a way that an ad will begin showing up at the bottom of the email that comes to you. Your email address is still not being shared with anyone other than the school! The mere placement of advertising in school communications is of concern to us, especially since we have no control over what the ad may be.

We are exploring other means of providing this service to you at this time. For now, we ask your patience as we work through the concern. In the meantime, if you receive an ad that is objectionable to you, we would appreciate your notifying the school, and holding onto it so that it may be forwarded to proper personnel.

Thank you for your patience!
